During the last 10 years there has been increasing interest in the design and synthesis of both oligomeric and polymeric systems that fold into welldefined secondary structures.
Foldamer research is the culmination of efforts beginning in the early twentieth century at the advent of synthetic polymer chemistry and the growth of fields such as molecular biology and supramolecular biology. The amalgamation of these fields has led to the development of unnatural folding systems.
