The Roman poet Marc Annaeus Lucan (39 - 65), a native of Cordoba in Spain, nephew of Seneca the Elder. His father was a very wealthy M. Anney Mel. Still a child Lucan was brought to Rome, where he received a good education. He was a very talented and popular poet, he was compared to Virgil. The glory of Lucan evoked the envy of Emperor Nero. The poet was accused as a participant in the plot of Guy Piso against Nero and was forced to commit suicide at the age of 26. Lucan is the author of the poem "The Pharsalia or the poem about the Civil War" in ten books, which remained unfinished (the poem breaks off at the end of the tenth book).
This volume presents the Latin text of the poem by Lucan, the English translation, the index.
