Rose Tremain is a great but seemingly little-known novelist. Her novel
"Restoration" was made into a movie (starring Robert Downey, I believe).
This title is a story of the interconnecting lives of members of the
court of King Christian IV of Denmark. Perhaps that doesn't sound very
exciting, but Tremain is an excellent writer, and the story is riveting
and atmospheric. Jenny Agutter (of Logan's Run fame) is so good
a narrator that one wishes she'd narrated more books.
