Rex Todhunter Stout (born Rex Todhunter Stout; December 1, 1886 - October 27, 1975) - American writer, author of detective novels, creator of the series of novels about Nero Wolfe.
In 1913, Stout released his first novel - "Her Forbidden Knight", written in the genre of detective. In 1914, Rex Stout produces novel "Under the Andes", written in the style of adventure literature. In 1915 he released a third novel - "Award for princes," which to some extent was a continuation of the previous one. After that Stout did not write more than 10 years.
In 1927, Stout moved to Paris, where he again turned to literature. In 1929, he wrote a psychological novel "Like a god." He then wrote three more psychological novel. Literary critics spoke of his work well, but readers of novels were not successful. In the early 1930s, Stout returned to the United States. On his literary work, he said:
"Novels was good, but I immediately realized two things: I am a good make-believe, but a great writer never going to be."
However, in 1934 he released a novel, "Fer-de-Lance" which first appeared a private detective Nero Wolfe and his assistant Archie Goodwin (whose name and narrator). Roman Stout brought immense popularity.
A total of 47 published books with detectives about Wolfe and Goodwin (14 of them - the collections, the latest of which was published posthumously in 1985).
In addition to books about Wolfe and Goodwin, Stout wrote several novels and stories about minor characters in the series - Inspector Cramer, Tecumseh Fox and others.
