J. D. Davies has done it again. He is currently my favorite author in the nautical fiction genre. His books are refreshing because they center on the period of the Anglo-Dutch wars, which have been relatively ignored compared to the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars. Davies' scholarship is excellent; his writing style captures the period; there are always humorous moments, and a mystery that always needs sleuthing out.
