...Although there are several excellent texts available on the quantum theory of scattering, I felt it necessary to include Chapters 2 and 3 which introduce in a non-rigorous way the basic, formal framework of theory within which most models of direct reactions are embedded. Chapters 4 through 8 are concerned with the often tedious but very necessary matter of constructing detailed formulae for reaction amplitudes. Chapter 9 studies the structure of reaction amplitudes in a more general way, especially their symmetry properties. The description of polarization phenomena in terms of spherical tensors is developed in chapter 10. The remaining chapters are devoted to the various models of direct reactions and their application to the interpretation of experimental data...
