This book introduces you to transistor operation by first explaining the operation of the P-N junction. This explanation is then extended to the junction transistor, which consists of two P-N juctions. The explanation of the internal workings of the transistor is quite simplified, but sifficient for you to relate the internal workings to the operation of the transistor in a circuit.
