Vasily Yanchilin, "The Quantum Theory of Gravitation"
2003 | ISBN-10: 5354003466 | 247 pages | scan PDF | 83 MB

Will our Universe expand forever, or there is a Big Crunch coming up? How may the rate of the Universe expansion be measured in a laboratory? How does the boundary of space look?

How may Mach’s principle be verified experimentally? How many stars are needed in order for the law of inertia to hold?

What is a source of the uncertainty in the micro world? How does an indivisible electron contrive to pass through two holes at the same time?

What mechanism underlies the gravitational interaction? Why is space-time curved near a large mass? What happens to an atom in a gravitational field? And, finally, where all these black holes go?

If you want to know answers to these questions, this book is for you!

In this book, the uncertainty and gravitation are considered as two aspects of the same phenomenon. The mechanism of the gravitational attraction is explained visually. A physical sense of the curved space-time is revealed on a simple example of an atom in a gravitational field. An explanation of the most bizarre quantum paradoxes as, for instance, the corpuscle-wave dualism and non-locality is proposed. A description of the experiment on measurement of the rate of the Universe expansion is presented.

Our space may be compared with the screen of a monitor. Lines separated by a fraction of a millimeter are distinguished on a monitor of high class. At the same time such lines smear into one line on a bad monitor. Our space is a "monitor" of highest class, but it is still not ideal. Trajectories of particles’ motion "smear" at small distances (of an order of the size of an atom). In consequence of that an electron (which is an indivisible particle) can pass through two near-placed holes at the same time! Because of that, the micro-world is thought to be strange.

The quality of a monitor is determined by the work of focusing systems, which direct electrons’ beams to a screen. In space, stars and galaxies filling our Universe play the role of such systems. Influencing elementary particles with their masses, stars and galaxies limit the uncertainty of the particles’ motion. Due to that, photons, neutrons, and electrons do not smear within space as on a screen of a bad monitor.

The effect of gravitation is a purely quantum effect: a large mass limits the uncertainty in a particle’s motion and, as the result, attracts it.
