I recently read Termination Orders and enjoyed it very much although I don't read many books in this genre. While I mainly read mystery and suspense, I read more of the historical, funny, and other more cozy mysteries. But since I do like a change of pace, this book seemed like a good choice. It had the fast paced action I was expecting, but the surprise was that it was also well-written.

I appreciated the characters in this book. The bond between Cobra and Cougar and the relationship between Cougar and his family gave added depth to the action. The book dedication should have given me a clue that this wouldn't just be step up from action comic stories. I appreciated seeing how the author included Cobra's family. I am curious how Maloney handles the next book since Cobra's family expects him to quit black ops.

The closest I can think to compare this to is a Tom Clancy book, but I liked Cobra better than Clancy's characters who seem very full of themselves to me. This book made me wonder where the truth of Maloney's past as a black ops agent ended and the fiction of the book began.

I think Termination Orders would be a good book for group discussion. In addition to the normal questions like plot, characters, and setting, there could be a discussion of the gray areas of morality and ethics. The discussion could cover the personal ethics of blindly following orders and of killing if necessary as well as the national/political ethics of the training and the missions.
