I was very excited when I was alerted that Rhett in Love was available. I literally read it in a few hours, easily skipping breakfast. I had been keeping tabs on all the teasers that were available, so I knew there would be some bumps along the way, and I'm glad there were. I've read other continuations in other series and I'm usually disappointed because the romance is all roses and butterflies with very few missteps or growth. I'm glad this one dealt with both Clementine's and Rhett's insecurities and their quick jump from best friends to a romantic relationship in a more realistic way.
I loved Rhett in the first book. He was so used to things going smoothly and thought arguments and miscommunication could be fixed by making love to Clementine, although deep down, he knew somehow, it wasn't enough. It was sad to see him struggle with his past and not realizing the impact his behavior and non-disclosure of some activities could effect Clementine. It was nice to see how hard he was willing to work to make his relationship with Clementine work. Sure, he made some bad decisions and I wanted to smack some sense into him, but I see where his errors were coming from. I also loved Clementine in the first book, and it was good to see how much she loved Rhett, she wasn't going to back down from him and his jealousy or outbursts of hot/cold behavior. She was still insecure at times and some of her behavior was a bit uncalled for, but even at Rhett's worst, she stood by his side.
This book really showed how much they grew up from book one, realizing they had some growing up to do, together. And I have to say, the ending definitely made me love Rhett even more than before. I was sad to see it come to an end.
