There was a time when civil aircraft were far less interesting and spectacular than military types. Today all that has changed. The supersonic Concorde, developed at a cost of more than two and a half billion dollars, fills newspaper headlines almost daily, making there-and-back flights across the Atlantic while a Boeing 747 completes a one-way journey, yet having to battle against those who wish to see it scrapped.
