Sixteen years ago only twenty five people escaped the destruction and takeover of the kingdom of winter. Now the heir to the throne and his best friend, a feisty orphan girl who narrates, are fighting to regain the magical conduit that will let them have again almost all they lost. Engaging high fantasy with plenty of original twists and turns. I predicted the biggest twist before I opened the book, but that didn't stop me from enjoying every single word. Appropriate language and light sensuality make it appropriate for all all ya readers. Adding it to my classroom library and already talking it up to my fantasy readers. I recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the Throne of Glass series or the His Fair Assassins books. Solid purchase.
