This is one of those stories tailor made for the young reader in people like me. As a teenager, I devoured suspense, thriller and horror stories. The sense of excitement and wonder were what hooked me in those stories as a kid, and Richard Gleaves' enticing new take on Sleepy Hollow, with a geeky but compelling protagonist, drew me in from the beginning.

It would be unfair to reveal too much of the plot, so instead I'll say that the idea of setting this new Sleepy Hollow tale in the modern age was excellent and well executed. Though many of the characters are teenagers, making this story accessible to the YA fiction readers, it also tackles important themes of individuality, rationality and learning to trust one's best judgement even in the face of horrors and self doubt.

In Jason Crane, Gleaves has created a new hero worthy of the title. I LOVED how he threw Jason into one precarious and deadly situation after another, only to watch him come out victorious every time. I look forward to the following books in the series, but until then, I invite readers to savor this one and by all means, tell a friend!
