In fulfilment of the task assigned to me to produce a short book on Kant, I have tried to offer what is strktly an introduction; and one which, on the other hand, seeks to confine itself to the critical philosophy, as found - to the best of my belief-in Kant's mature work beginning with the Critique of Pure Reason.
Naturally I have not aimed at completeness; and in deciding what to touch upon and what to omit, I have consistently tried to give priority to those of Kant's problems to which his approach has still a present-day interest, as distinct from those whose interest, by now, is probably chiefly historical. I shall have achieved a great part of my purpose if I have succeeded in whetting any philosophical reader's appetite for Kant's own words, or that of any reader at all for philosophy in general.
