The purpose of this exhibition is primarily educational; that is, to familiarize the public with various forms of forgery and fraud in the fine arts and to demonstrate the basic methods of detection used by museums and collectors. In addition, however, the exhibition is intended to engage the viewer in a personal dialogue with works of art, both real and fake, and to explore the subtleties and nuances of perception, intuition, and scholarly knowledge that make any encounter with art a dynamic experience.
