Implementing Cisco Video Network Devices, Part 2
Jeremy Cioara covers the implementation, operation, and troubleshooting of Cisco Collaboration, Telepresence, and Digital Media Player (DMP) endpoints and their back-end supporting systems.
The CIVND2 series picks up where the CIVND1 series leaves off and dives right into the practical understanding and implementation of a Cisco Telepresence solution. By the time you complete this course, you will have the core skills needed to implement and support converged network endpoints (voice, video, data, and mobile applications), which will likely deliver completely new functionality to the desk of every user in your organization.

1. Cisco CCNA Collaboration: Welcome to CIVND2 (3 min)
It all starts here! Jump in to get an overview of the CIVND2 series.
2. Cisco Collaboration Overview: Legacy Conferencing and the New World Order (8 min)
Video conferencing is not exactly a "new thing." Jeremy discusses the background of video conferencing over ISDN, and discusses the five key areas of collaborative connections.
3. Cisco Collaboration Overview: Assembling Collaboration Puzzle Pieces (15 min)
There are five areas of "collaboration goodness" that Cisco has addressed in their video and telepresence offering: Endpoints, Call Control, Media Services, Gateway Services, and Scheduling and Management. Jeremy unpacks each of these areas, demystifying the puzzle pieces of the collaboration solution.
4. Cisco Collaboration Overview: Beyond the Promo — Other Endpoints (19 min)
This Nugget is designed to provide a "richness" to your understanding of the Cisco telepresence/collaboration endpoints. You'll be waving the enthusiastic telepresence flag from the top of the mountain once you have a better understanding of the 7800, 8800, DX, SX, MX, IX, and C-series endpoints.
5. Cisco Collaboration Overview: Clarifying VCS and VCS Expressway (8 min)
The more you dive into the Cisco Telepresence product lines, the more potential there is for "loose, untied strings" in your mind. This Nugget is designed to clarify the difference between CUCM and VCS (why the two exist) and unpack the concept of "expressways" (VCS Expressway, Cisco Expressway Edge).
6. Video Phone Communication: Understanding endpoint registration (12 min)
Understand the "Why and How" behind endpoint-to-CUCM registration. Jeremy "whirls and weaves" his way through the critical seven-step process.
7. Video Phone Communication: The protocols that make things happen (6 min)
Conquer eight of the new protocols that surface again and again as the core of collaboration communication. Jeremy provides an overview of each protocol and its place: CDP, LLDP/LLDP-MED, DHCP, TFTP, HTTP, SCCP/SIP, and RTP.
8. Video Phone Configuration: Registering endpoints — preparing the infrastructure (13 min)
You might remember from the "Understanding Endpoint Registration" Nugget that telepresence devices rely heavily on a solid DHCP and DNS infrastructure to operate. In this Nugget, Jeremy configures these services on a Windows 2008 server, and adds a little video telepresence himself, just for fun!
9. Video Phone Communication: Getting familiar with CUCM (11 min)
Before we dive fully into CUCM administration, we need to be familiar with the application from a broad perspective. In this Nugget, Jeremy discusses how to get CUCM set up in a lab environment and an overview of the CCMAdmin interface.
10. Video Phone Communication: Getting familiar with VCS (16 min)
VCS is the "other white meat" of the Telepresence call control platforms brought to us by Tandberg themselves. If you've never seen VCS before, this Nugget will provide a fantastic high-level view of the platform.
11. Video Phone Communication: Registering DX-650 endpoints (13 min)
Jeremy walks through the four-step process to register Cisco telepresence devices (DX-650s, in this case).
12. Video Phone Communication: Understanding the place of Jabber (8 min)
Jeremy walks through Cisco's design for Jabber, which goes far beyond simple IM services.
13. Video Phone Communication: Registering a Jabber client (8 min)
We now turn to pure configuration. In this Nugget, Jeremy walks through the CUCM and Windows configuration of a Jabber client.
14. Jabber and IP Phone Operation: Common registration issues (16 min)
Ready to fall down a mountain? Jeremy will convince you this is a great thing as you dive into troubleshooting common reasons your telepresence endpoints or Jabber clients are not registering correctly.
15. Jabber and IP Phone Operation: Common calling issues (6 min)
Calling issues can range from dropped calls to reorder tones to bad sound quality. While the CCNA Collaboration certification does not expect you to be able to manage all these issues alone, Jeremy does a masterful job of giving you the right direction toward mitigating these issues.
16. Cisco TC Software: TC software familiarization (11 min)
No one really knows what TC software stands for, but it powers just about all Cisco Telepresence devices today (stay tuned for the upcoming CE software releases)! If you have yet to dive into the TC software, then dive in here! Jeremy discusses the premise of TC software, tours the interface, and performs common tasks to set up a Cisco EX90 device.
17. Cisco TC Software: Command Line Interface (4 min)
The jury is still out on the question, "Do real Cisco techs only use CLI?" Regardless, that's what you get in this Nugget: A brief introduction to the TC Software CLI.
18. Cisco TC Software: Registering an EX90 Telepresence Endpoint with CUCM (10 min)
We've got DX-650s, Cisco 7960s, a Jabber Client ... but what's a party without a real Telepresence endpoint registered to CUCM? By the time this Nugget is done, you'll see the Cisco EX90 registration process and even some video quality troubleshooting.
19. Cisco TC Software: Registering an EX90 Telepresence Endpoint with VCS (15 min)
The "coffee-cup supported EX90 adventure" continues as Jeremy flips the registration from CUCM to VCS via the H.323 and SIP protocols, and completes a cross-zone call from VCS to CUCM.
20. Cisco TC Software: Adding some Collaboration bling (7 min)
What telepresence system doesn't need a little "shimmer?" To add a little gloss, dive into this Nugget and learn how to interact with calls using the TC web interface, set up Far End Camera Control (FECC), auto answer, and local camera layouts.
21. Cisco TC Software: A little more Telepresence gloss (10 min)
The additional telepresence options continue as Jeremy discusses the Phonebook and Encryption options, and then puts together a "killer chicken demo" of computer screen sharing.
22. Video Conferencing: Integrated TC Multisite Conferencing (10 min)
Have you ever dialed into a company meeting before? How effective is it? Not very effective at all. What you need is a little Multisite Conferencing Telepresence love to engage all the involved parties! Jump in to see how you can use the integrated features of the Cisco TC software to host or make multisite telepresence calls.
23. Video Conferencing: Multiway Calls — Registering the MCU with VCS (13 min)
We're diving into the deep end! Multipoint Control Units (MCUs) provide the power-packed DSP punch your video conferencing network needs. In this Nugget, Jeremy sets up a console connection to an MCU 4501, applies the base configuration, and registers it with the VCS server.

Ready? Here's where the rubber meets the road! Dive in to collaborate with Jeremy through the design of the NuggetLab Industries Telepresence system!
29. Telepresence Lab: Room Design (11 min)
No, you're not an interior decorator. However, the environment of the Telepresence meeting room so heavily impacts the end experience, it behooves you to have a good concept of what works and doesn't work in a room design. Join Jeremy as he pulls some CIVND1 material into the Telepresence Lab for an intensely practical and informative Nugget.
30. Telepresence Lab: Lighting, Sound, and Power (12 min)
A beautiful room with no light isn't very beautiful at all! Jump in to continue your room design with a focus on light, acoustics, power, HVAC, and cable connections.
