The Daily Show, known in it's current incarnation as The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,
is an American late night satirical television program airing each Monday to Thursday
on Comedy Central in the United States. The 30 min long show premiered on July 21,
1996, and was hosted by Craig Kilborn until December 1998. Jon Stewart took over as
host in January 1999, bringing a number of changes to the shows content. Under Stewart
The Daily Show has become more strongly focused around politics and national media,
in contrast with the more character-driven focus during Kilborn's tenure.
Robert "Bob" Menendez (born January 1, 1954) is an American national political figure
who has been serving, since January 18, 2006, as the junior United States Senator from
New Jersey. A member of the Democratic Party, he was appointed by Jon Corzine to fill
the remaining year in the Senate seat from which Corzine resigned upon being elected
Governor of New Jersey in November 2005. Near the end of his one-year appointment,
Menendez was elected In the midterm elections held November 7, 2006 to his own full term.
Before becoming a member of the Senate, he represented New Jersey's 13th congressional
district in the United States House of Representatives from January 3, 1993 to January 16,
2006. A resident of Hoboken, he is the first person of Hispanic ethnicity to represent New
Jersey in the U.S. Senate and, in the aftermath of 2008 elections, was appointed to head
the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.
