In 1832-1834, in order to study the way of life and customs of the native inhabitants of America (Indians), the famous traveler and naturalist Prince Maximilian View (more precisely, Vid Neuwied), together with the Swiss painter Karl Bodmer, traveled across the states of North America from the east coast Reaching the Upper Missouri (Montana).
While the prince was studying ritual implements, other subjects, making notes or talking with Indians, Bodmer was making his famous sketches with watercolors. He drew leaders and warriors, dances and ceremonies, and even bison on broad spaces of the prairie. These were images that the general public had never seen before. Upon their return to Europe, the researchers planned to publish their studies, which in 1838 were published in two volumes with an atlas and were called "Reise nach Nordamerika". Original illustrations (in quantity of 81 pieces) were decorated as a portfolio. Plus the map of travelers.
