ABOUT THE AUTHOR
One of the most popular American women astrologers, very much done for the legalization of astrology in the United States.
A. was educated in the Endoversion Theological Seminary. Then she worked as a secretary in the office "Lord & Webster", engaged in wholesale trade in flour and grain. Astrology A. studied with Dr. J. Hebert Smith, a professor of medicine at Boston University, the leading diagnostician of New England. Professional astrological practice A. began in the studio in the Boston hotel "Copley", with difficulty overcoming the many obstacles from his family.
Fame came to A. in March 1899, when she first came to New York. Staying at the hotel "Windsor", she at the request of the hotel manager, Warren Leland, calculated for him a horoscope. Having studied the map, A. warned him of the danger that lay in wait for him the next day, and asked what two troubles had happened in his life. The manager recalled that there were two small fires. The next day, because of the cigarette's unpredictable smoker, "the greatest trouble of hotels of all time, the famous Windsor fire" occurred, in the fire of which more than a dozen people died, including the wife and the beloved daughter of the manager. The building of the hotel was completely destroyed. In the days following the fire, Leland made A. the best advertisement, telling reporters that the fire was predicted by her.
A. studied mainly practical astrology. Her work with clients, apparently, was based for the most part on horar charts. Among her clients were Enrico Caruso, Mary Pickford, multimillionaire J. Pierpont Morgan.
Until 1914, astrological consultations in the US were banned by law against charlatanism, and astrologers were forced to go underground. Being less secretive than her colleagues, A. worked on her vocation, risking for many years to go to jail before there was a precedent in court, which became her star hour.
For the first time A. was summoned to court in 1912, and the judge acquitted her. But it was not enough for her that only accusations against her were rejected. The second time she was arrested in 1914, when detective Adele Priss came to her anonymously, introducing herself as a client, in order to be able to testify against her. A. hired lawyer Clark L. Jordon and insisted on the continuation of the investigation. She proposed to calculate and analyze in the courtroom a natal chart of an unknown person. Judge Freshy called her date (these were the birth data of the son of the judge himself) and, after reading her testimony, wrote in her conclusion:
"The defendant brought astrology to the heights of exact science.
She provided satisfactory evidence of her education and high culture, showing herself to be well versed in astronomy and other sciences. The horoscope she compiled, she claims, can be verified in astronomical books ...
When the defendant made the horoscope of the plaintiff and calculated the relative positions of the planets at the time of her birth, using known and reliable astronomical data for this, she did not break the law "[1].
Since that time, astrologers have had the opportunity to work in their profession as freely as professionals in other fields of science.
After the legalization of astrology in the country, A. came to the conclusion that her most significant contribution to astrology was the astrological planning of the birth of children, which allows reaching the most harmonious course of pregnancy and family life after the birth of the child. She called it "astrological eugenics", the purpose of which was to avoid unnecessary complications, rather than undergo them. Another problem that A. devoted many years of work is the selection of homeless children for parents who want to adopt a child. A woman who distributed children by her family reported A. dates of birth of babies and, in some cases, dates of birth of the alleged parents, and A. described the home conditions in which children would best develop.
On April 12, 1923, A. married George E. Jordan, an English breeder who left his business and devoted his life to the joint study of astrology with his wife. A. "The Cup of Heaven" became her first book; This is the only book that contains information about the life of the author. Since 1926, A. more engaged in research than advice. The results of these studies are included in three books. One of them - "Astrology, your place under the Sun" - stood 25 editions.
Actively working on checking horoscopes, examples for their books, A. since 1930, also spoke three times a week on the radio WABS, as a result of which the interested public sent her four thousand requests for horoscopes every day. Among the many political predictions of A. was the US entry into the war in 1942.
In 1932, A. refused to offer her a tour with lectures, explaining her refusal by the fact that her speedy death would make this tour impossible. On November 10 of the same year she died of a heart disease that was manifested only three days before her death. The state of A., valued at more than ten million dollars, was taken by will to her husband, who was next to her when she was dying. The will also included her property in Yorktown Heights, Westchester - the reconstructed "Meeting Hall", where paintings and her astrological records, papers and books were kept.
