The tomb was discovered in 1904, and attracted interest, however, the damage caused by numerous crowds of tourists for decades, was the reason for its re-closure for restoration in 1986. In 1992, restoration and conservation works were completed, and in In 1995, the tomb was again open for public visits. The book gives a description of the work done, generously supported by images of the walls of the tomb illustrating some chapters of the Book of the Dead and the journey of Nefertari to the afterlife.
