Ancient Greek writer Plutarch (about 45 - 120 AD), was born in Chaeronea in Boeotia (central Greece), studied philosophy, rhetoric, mathematics in Athens. I arrived
in Rome as a teacher of philosophy. Enjoyed the respect and patronage of the emperors Trajan and Adrian. I was happy in marriage, the father of one daughter and four sons. Known as a benevolent and decent man, a studious scholar with a broad outlook (history, philosophy, ethics, religion) and a talented and bright narrator, who created many works. But Plutarch gained worldwide fame thanks to the surviving "Comparative Biographies" of famous statesmen of antiquity (several biographies - Leonid, Epaminond, Scipio of Africa were lost). Survived 46 biographies in pairs (in each pair, one Greek hero and one Roman), and 4 biographies presented separately. In addition to high literary merits, "Comparative biographies" also contain invaluable historical information, since Plutarch used a large amount of material from many sources that did not survive to us.
