Prosopography of the Later Roman Empire (commonly abbreviated PLRE), "Prosopography of the Late Roman Empire" - a three-volume edition that contains information about people who lived or supposedly lived in the Roman world from 260 to 641 year. e. In the preface, the publishers report that they included in the collection all senators, riders, comets and job holders up to the provincial governors and tribunes, prefects and prepositions of military formations, as well as officials of the palace "ministers" and prefects of Pretoria, prefects of Rome and military masters, advisers magistrates, lawyers, doctors, rhetoricians, grammars and poets. Philosophers are also included (although they are not mentioned in the preface). Excluded are simple soldiers, junior officers and decurions, as well as Christians (for example, any well-known Christians who did not occupy significant positions or who were not rhetoricians or philosophers). Due to some blurring of the time, geographic and social criteria for the inclusion or non-inclusion of persons in the PLRE edition, some criticism has been criticized. Articles are based on the use of various sources: historical, literary, hagiographical, documentary (for example, papyri), inscriptions. The names of persons known only from late or questionable sources (for example, Vortigern), as well as those whose name was preserved only partially in the inscription or in the document, are marked with special icons.
