The book describes the history of the city of Jerusalem from 30 to 70-ies of the XIX century. This period includes the siege and capture of the city by the troops of Titus, the last uprisings of the Jews, the Christian rule for about three hundred years, the Muslim conquest and the erection of the Dome of the Rock, the Crusades and reign of Christian kings, the conquest of the city by Muslims and the long period of Muslim rule, during which no special events, except for the annual confluence of pilgrims to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher and occasional quarrels among the monks. The appendix describes the ancient holy places of the city.
