In the science of the CIS countries, there is practically no research on the historical demography of Rome. In the United States and Britain, they are "riveted" by hundreds in several schemes. One of them is the so-called "shotgun method" - estimation of the population by estimating the territory and the density of the development of the set of settlements.
This study is based on this method. Despite the simplified approach and the corresponding quality of the conclusions, the book contains a wealth of factual material, and most importantly, proves a high level of ancient urbanization, which for a combination of reasons was 1.5-2 times higher than those of the Middle Ages and modern times.
