Placeholder objects – Everyday project heroes
You can now easily change project properties with an assist from placeholder objects. To make this possible, the project itself is now defined as an object belonging to a placeholder object. This feature applies to EPLAN Platform and, for instance, simplifies your daily work with EPLAN Cogineer.

- In EPLAN Cogineer, you can use this function to overwrite data from the underlying base project in the emerging target project, for example the commission number.

Creating a new target project
Instead of selecting a target project in Designer, you now have the possibility to create a new project. To do so, click the selection box in the header. After you have clicked the selection box, three input fields appear in which you can enter the project template, the storage location and the new project name.
You can also choose to overwrite an existing project using the selection switch.
XML import
You can now import an XML file even if values for a configuration variable marked as "Mandatory" are missing. Values for configuration variables in the Project Builder that do not exist in the XML file are retained during import.
If you use configuration variables and instances in the XML file that do not exist in the Typical, an error message is displayed.
Overwriting a project in silent mode
The default value for the "Overwrite" function has been changed from 1 to 0. If you do not enter anything in the command line, an existing project is not overwritten.
XML import
It is no longer necessary to set values in the XML file to be imported for all configuration variables. The XML import also functions when configuration variables in the XML file do not contain any values.
The contents of the XML file are also combined with the existing configurators, provided that the variable values do not overlap.
Silent mode
You can also generate a project documentation in Project Builder by using the command line. An interaction with the software user interface of the Project Builder is not required in that case. It is possible to select a library, a target project, a configurator, Macro-Typicals or Typical-Groups and import an XML file.
To this purpose start your EPLAN platform with the command line. By entering the parameters you specify which elements are to be used for the generation of the project documentation.
The Cogineer is an add-on of the EPLAN platform that allows you to further standardize and automate your engineering processes and data. On the basis of pre-defined partial circuits (macros), value sets and rules you create configurators for your products. Subsequently you enrich the configurators with project-specific information and generate the required project documentation automatically to a great extent. Depending on the trade you generate the project documentation for EPLAN Electric P8 or EPLAN Fluid.
All the data that are required for the project documentation of a project are stored in a macro project of the EPLAN platform. This also includes all the elements that you create in the Cogineer. This macro project is conceived as a library which you can use when creating the Macro-Typicals, Typical-Groups and configurators.
All the required macros are organized and managed in Macro-Typicals. Each Macro-Typical maps a part of the product that is to be configured. Typical-Groups serve to group partial functions. In a configurator you specify which components your product must consist of and which components are optional.
The library that contains your macros, Macro-Typicals, Typical-Groups and configurators is the starting point for the mechatronics configuration of your products.

In the current Version 2.9 the programs of the EPLAN Platform are available as a 64-bit version.

The EPLAN user interface language installed must be supported by the operating system. The Microsoft .NET framework 4.7.2 is required to operate the EPLAN Platform.
