ESI FOAM-X 2021.0 | 311.9 mb
ESI Group, a leading innovator in virtual prototyping software and services for manufacturing industries, announces the new version of FOAM-X 2021.0 is standalone utility for quick characterization of the acoustic properties of open cell porous materials from impedance tube measurements.

FOAM-X 2021.0 Release Notes - Date: May 2021

Enhancements

General
- User can load data with a maximum of 20 000 frequency points (e.g., in previous version, FOAM-X was only able to load data with a maximum of 7 000 points).
- When a 3-microphones or 4-microphones TUBE-X file is used in characterization method, Transmission Loss is now plotted when you click on Graph button in Simulation, Sensitivity and FAST Sensitivity modules.
- In File menu, the old FOAM-X project converter shortcut has been renamed to “Convert Old FOAM-X project File”.
Inverse Method – Poroelastic – General Porous
- A new mounting condition has been added. Inversion can now be performed when the sample is backed on air cavity.
- It is possible to inverse on two samples at the same times (i.e., global inversion). It allows you to have two different mounting conditions and also two different tube sizes.
Both Sensitivity Analysis Modules
- Axisymmetric Finite Element Solver is now available is both sensitivity modules. It allows to take into account mounting conditions in the tube.
- By adding this new solver, the background logo in sensitivity FAST module has been removed to improve windows readability.
Database
- Database server has been upgraded to SQL server 2019 (v15.0) to ensure a better Windows compatibility.

Corrections - It was possible to save a material to the database when database is disable causing FOAM-X crash.
- The formatting of the description project section was not correctly saved (i.e. carriage return not saved).
- #217706 – In some graphs of Sensitivity Analysis FAST Method, grey area is plotted outside the limits.
- #212247 – On certain computers FOAM-X 2020 might show a database problem error on start.
- FVT window – Bulk Density value of an experimental data in Fr tab was not automatically transferred when data is available.
- FVT window – Refresh button did not restore identified values.
- In each menu and shortcut, a lack of uniformity of dash format has been corrected.
- #217106 – Open Porosity validator if Fd Tab blocked the computation on FAE tab in FVT window.
- #217710 – Some typos in the user’s guide and in FOAM-X have been corrected.
- #217250 – In Simulation windows, it was possible to compute with Tube Diameter equals to 0 mm.
- #217204 – In Simulation windows, incorrect error message when set the frequency domain. It indicates that the frequency step should be greater or equal than “X” but in reality it should be greater but not equal.
- #213302 – It was possible to compute with Relative Humidity > 100 % in Sensitivity Analysis and Simulation.
- #213302 – An error appeared when the upper constrain value is entered in Atmospheric Pressure and Temperature fields in Sensitivity Analysis, FAST Sensitivity Analysis and Simulation modules. No Error message is now displayed.
- #213302 – In FAST Sensitivity module, FOAM-X error message appeared with values in the range [300, 800] in Atmospheric Pressure. No Error message is now displayed.
- #213180 – Resizing issue in Fabric and Perforated Plate Inverse windows.
- #213065 – Confusing entry in the log when do simulation or sensitivity analysis for inverse poroelastic material with elastic model.
- #212591 – Export for advanced indirect characterization is not working properly when either Export Dynamic Bulk Density or Modulus is selected.
- #209233 – “Index was outside the bounds of the array” error when input file contains more than 7000 lines.

FOAM-X is an advanced software used for defining acoustical properties of open-cell porous materials, perforated plates and resistive layers, based on impedance tube measurements following ASTM E1050 or ISO 10534-2, or transmission tube measurement following ASTM E2611. The parameters found with FOAM-X are compatible with poroelastic material modules of commercially available programs such as VA One, and NOVA. All of these modules use the extended Biot’s theory to describe finely porous materials.
