BBC R4 Documentary - 'Pleistocene Park'
Presented by Adam Fowler
Produced by Jill Meek
Broadcast July 2, 2007
A visionary ecological experiment in Siberia.
Since 1989 biologist Sergey Zimov has been recreating an ice-age
ecosystem. The reserve of meadows, forests and willow shrublands
in the Kolyma River Basin is becoming populated by creatures not
seen in those parts for thousands of years.
Zimov even uses an old military tank to rip up trees to simulate the
action of mammoths on the landscape. He hopes one day to have
the real thing.
