Understanding Victorian culture requires knowledge of the Pre-Raphaelites,
a movement that began with painting and spread to literature. It began as
a mid-nineteenth-century "Brotherhood" rebelling against the British art
establishment. Members advocated attention to detail in literary and
historical themes that depicted a return to nature and realism. Today
pre-raphaelite works, generally, are considered romantic/idealistic
medievalism.
Dante Gabriel Rossetti was one of the founders of the Brotherhood;
eventually others in his family were associated with the movement, too.
This torrent is for those who want to evaluate the Rossettis and Pre-
Raphaelites for themselves. It includes only one current source for an
overview, everything else--mostly collected works and correspondence--
was published from 1882 to 1922.
