BBC R2 Sounds of the 20th Century 1956-1960 Audiobooks Mp3 128 kbps €10 buy download
Sounds of the Twentieth Century is an audio journey through five decades
of triumph, tragedy and trivia in 50 hour-long episodes.

Each programme is dedicated to one year from 1951 to 2000 and features
nothing that wasn't heard, seen or read at the time. There's no hindsight,
no "I-heart-the-80s"-style reminiscences; just the music, the news, the
radio, the TV and the movies as they were first experienced.

Part 6 - 1956 (12 May 2011)
Jeremy Vine introduces episode six: 1956. The year of Rock Around the
Clock, the Hungarian Revolution, the Suez Crisis and petrol coupons.
Archbishop Makarios and Commander Crabbe are two of the year's most
controversial names. Floyd Patterson becomes the new World Heavyweight
Champion, Jim Laker takes all 10 wickets in a Test Match and the Teddy
Boys are "ripping it up" all over the UK. Meanwhile, Tommy Steele is
the UK's new pin-up boy and skiffle arrives with Lonnie Donegan and Rock
Island Line.Music and featured items
