The determination of the maximum current that a cable
can sustain without deterioration of any of its
electrical and/or mechanical properties has always been
of prime interest to engineers and constitutes an
important design parameter for both system planning and
operations.
Accurate ampacity studies help maximizing the benefits
from the considerable capital investment associated with
cable installations. Also they help to increase system
reliability and the proper utilization of the installed
equipment.
CYMCAP is a Windows-based software designed to perform
thermal analyses. It addresses both steady state and
transient thermal cable rating. These thermal analyses
pertain to temperature rise and/or ampacity calculations
using the analytical techniques described by
Neher-McGrath and the IEC 287 and IEC 853 International
standards. More details on the implemented methods and
the validation made to CYMCAP can be found in section
Methodology and computational standards.
