"The Very Hungry Caterpillar" - a children's picture book by American writer Eric Carle. Released in 1969, subsequently reprinted many times. The text of the book is the story of caterpillars before its transformation into a butterfly. The book is published on cardboard sheets, bright feature - the presence of holes in the cardboard ("eaten by" caterpillar).
The general circulation of the book was more than 30 million copies, it became one of the best selling in history. The book was very popular in the English-speaking world, has won many awards and has been translated into more than 50 languages. It regularly features in lists of the best children's books or the best books in English.
In 1993, for the anthology "The World of Eric Carle" was created animated TV version of the story of the caterpillar. The anthology, published on DVD, also included the stories The Very Quiet Cricket, The Mixed Up Chameleon, Papa, Please Get The Moon For Me and I See A Song.
