Alienbrain is a multi-user file management software
solution optimized for media content. It lets you import,
version, manage and share any kind of file. Its
functionality is a superset of digital asset management
(DAM) and software configuration management (SCM) systems.
Alienbrain is the de facto industry standard for file
management in professional media and entertainment
projects.
Alienbrain has two primary components: a central server
that manages a high-volume asset repository and the client
applications that users access on their desktops to get to
the assets they need. In tandem, these components provide a
very powerful architecture for file management, version
control, change management, configuration management,
workflow, access control, archiving and visual working. All
of this functionality can also be automated through
scripting and a command line tool and customized with
scripts, plug-ins and user settings. Alienbrain can alsou
integrate itself into your production pipeline through
application plug-ins for several popular content creation
tools.
Alienbrain manages your assets efficiently and offers an
easy-to-use interface to a rich feature set for working
with your assets. This prevents data loss and confusion,
reduces the time spent on clerical tasks like file
management and increases your productivity.
THE ALIENBRAIN SERVER
The central server maintains the asset files and up-to-date
information about them: when they were created, their file
sizes, their version histories and many other attributes.
Alienbrain uses the file system of your file server to
store the raw file data (including version histories). This
way, administrators and tools have full access to the
original files. All additional information (like comments,
keywords and custom properties) is stored in a highly
optimized object-oriented database.
The server controls and co-ordinates access to all assets
to provide security and to prevent access collisions. Users
can download any version from the server, lock the latest
version for modification and upload new versions.
THE ALIENBRAIN CLIENT
The client application is your asset management command
center. Once it is installed on your workstation, you can
use it to connect to any Alienbrain Server (providing you
are authorized to do so), browse the project databases that
contain the assets and import new files or view, lock and
edit existing ones. The Alienbrain Client collaborates with
the server to display thumbnail images and preview for
media assets and to provide access to workflow functions.
