The mammalian vestibular sensory epithelia have been thoroughly studied by means of light and electron microscopy since the first electron microscopic publications appeared (Wersall, 1954, 1956; Wersall et al., 1954; Smith, 1956). The aim of the present paper is to summarize some morphological findings which seem to be of special importance for the understanding of the physiology of the vestibular sensory cells.
