This book is what I hoped it would be a great read that transported me temporarily into another scene, an interesting one. In one way it is historical fiction as it presents people and places of the 1940s, especially LA and Hollywood of that time. In another, it draws us along with Ellie in her moves and travels and motherhood issues and feelings. It is one translation of the mystery and saga that is Irish-American.
It happens I read this first but will soon buy the first two books of the trilogy, and would advise anyone else to enjoy Kerrigan's offerings in the proper order. I love trilogies, getting to know the characters and follow their lives from the comfort of my sofa.
