When preparing assets to go into a game engine, many different types of texture maps are typically required.
This Maya tutorial will break down 3 major types of maps used in game pipelines and teach you efficient and effective ways to bake each right inside of Maya. We’ll begin by learning how to prepare geometry for the baking process by blowing it up or exploding it.
From here we’ll focus on the ID map and learn how to configure materials for it and then bake it out. Next we’ll move on to the normal map. Not only will we learn how to bake out our normal map, but we’ll also learn about some common problems with baked normal maps and how to fix them.
Lastly, we’ll learn how to bake the ambient occlusion map out for our game asset. After finishing this Maya training, you'll know how to get these three major type of maps ready for your game assets, without ever leaving Maya.
