This second edition of Championship Volleyball: by the experts is designed to provide the reader with an insight to the various aspects of the game of volleyball. Many of the professionals whose efforts have helped make volleyball one of the world's most exciting sports have contributed articles. This volume also includes the 1 982- 1 984 United States Volleyball Rules which will be in effect until after the 1984 Olympic games. I hope that in its own way Championship Volleyball: by the experts makes the game more enjoyable for every volleyball enthusiast. My sincere appreciation is extended to the numerous individuals - each an expert in her/his own area - who contributed their time and efforts to make this volume a reality. Appreciation is also extended to the United States Volleyball Association for permission to reprint the Official 1982 - 1984 United States Volleyball Rules. The Japanese Volleyball Association and The Canadian Volleyball Association are also to be commended for the contributions of members of their Associations and for their general professional support of this project. I am especially grateful to Mr. John Griffith, former publisher of the Athletic Journal, for permission to reprint several articles from the Athletic Journal in this volume.
