After his first trip across the Atlantic, Columbus wrote a brief account of the "Isles of India beyond the Ganges." Columb wanted to announce his latest discoveries and secure financial and political support for a new journey. The first edition of this letter was printed in Spanish in Barcelona in April 1493. A month later, Stephen Planck published his translation into Latin in Rome. In the preface of Planck expressed thanks to Fernando Aragon for his support of the expedition, but Queen Isabella is not mentioned at all. Soon, Planck issued a revised edition, which mentioned the role of Queen Isabella. It is thanks to this edition of the letter in Latin that the news of the discoveries of Columbus is widely spread in Europe.
In addition: The book is in English.
The Church calls this the second, or corrected edition of Planck.
