MOSES 2024 (24.00.00.722) | 1.0 Gb
The MOSES development team is pleased to announce the release of MOSES 2024 (24.00.00.722) is a uniquely integrated simulation software that helps you meet complex offshore project challenges more effectively with the efficiency and flexibility.

Bentley Lifecycle Policy, version numbering and side-by-side installation changes
Bentley Systems has made changes to the support lifecycle of desktop applications. One of the key changes is that major versions of MOSES will be supported with critical fixes for at least five years, although users are still encouraged to update to each new version to benefit from new features that are added to MOSES. Bentley Systems has moved to year-based naming for all products, thus this release is MOSES 2024. The version numbering (MM.MM.uu.bb) has the first two digit pairs (MM.MM) indicating the major version number of the software; the next pair of digits (uu) is the minor update of that major release (if any) and the final pair (bb) is the build number. Major versions continue to be installed side-by-side on the same machine; thus “MOSES 2024” (v24.00.00) can be installed alongside “MOSES 2023”. Minor updates to a major release will replace the any existing installation with the same major version number; thus v24.00.01 would replace v24.00.00 but still be called “MOSES 2024”.

Announcing MOSES Version 2024 - Date: 22 December 2023

MOSES 2024 Release notes Changes: All Applications

Updates to Sample Files
The following sample files have been updated/added to MOSES in this release:

- hdesk/runs/tests/install/man_launch.cif: The geometry has been altered to allow for better definition of the launch legs. There are a number of changes to this file and its associated data file to support this.
- hdesk\runs\tests\conn\winch.cif: Changed to metric units and added a second winch assembly.
- hdesk\runs\samples\wind_turbine\Hywind_AD.cif: This new sample is a model of the Hywind spar coupled with the NREL 5MW reference wind turbine. The sample demonstrates how to use the integrated AeroDyn solver (from OpenFAST) within a MOSES time domain analysis to determine the motions due to the coupled hydrodynamic and aerodynamic loading.
- hdesk\runs\samples\verify\pipelay.cif: Fixed a dimension statement and improved formatting.
- hdesk\runs\samples\mooring\winch.cif: Added post processing of connector length and forces.
- hdesk\runs\samples\mooring\int_turret.cif: Added statistics when post processing connector forces and improved formatting.
- hdesk\runs\samples\install\up_lowr.cif: Added more detailed comments and density to sling connector classes.
- hdesk\runs\samples\install\two_blk.cif: Improved load case generation and selection. The SACS tools are now used for post processing the structural analysis.
- hdesk\runs\samples\how_to\sidelift.cif: The SACS tools are now used for post processing the structural analysis.
- desk\runs\samples\data\tow_jacket.dat: New holes and tube tanks have been added to this model.
- hdesk\b_run\b_run.cif: Allowable stress option added to the MOMENT command when producing longitudinal strength results.
- Sample Designs\Examples\VolturnUS: This new sample demonstrates the Modeler COM interface. Parametric models of the VolturnUS-S are generated through a Python script or a macro in Microsoft Excel.

Changes: MOSES Executive and the MOSES Solver

900943: Quadratic Transfer Function (QTF) Export
As floating wind turbines and other systems are installed in relatively shallow water, more accurate drift modeling methodologies become of increasing importance. MOSES now has the option to compute the quadratic transfer function (QTF) for drift forces. This takes place in the HYDRODYNAMICS menu as an option added to the G_PRESSURE command:

G_PRESSURE -MD_TYPE QTF

Where -MD_TYPE has the usual range of options plus an additional selection, QTF. If QTF is specified here, MOSES will use the standard near field drift computation method, supplementing the usual calculations with the difference frequency drift terms for the super and sub-diagonals of the full drift QTF matrix. This computation will be extended in a future release to include the entire matrix.

MOSES can emit this QTF matrix in the WAMIT file format. This is accomplished with a new option on the
EMIT_WAMIT macro as follows:

EMIT_WAMIT -QTF YES/NO

Where -QTF can be NO (default) or YES. If YES is chosen, then MOSES will emit a WAMIT .12 file to the output directory. This enables the QTF to be read by other programs with a suitable WAMIT file interface.

This feature is available with all MOSES and OpenWindPower licenses and requires an active SELECT Entitlement

Bug fixes and minor changes
- 900307: When modeling more than one winch off a single drum using a winch assembly the actual speed of the winch was the defined speed multiplied by the number of lines present in the assembly. This behaviour is incorrect. This issue has been fixed by ensuring winches can only have one connector attached. Warnings are issued if this requirement is not met.
- 900379: Fixed an issue where the second node of a part connector created with PCONNECT was deleted if it was immediately followed by a part connector with a beam.
- 900391: In some cases flow was reported at vent valves and flood valves when no flow should be present. This issue has been fixed.
- 900844: An error found in the horizontal force on one of the two launch legs during a LAUNCH analysis has now been fixed.
- 900925: Extraneous characters were appearing in NORSOK joint check reports. This issue has been resolved.
