knitting projects into easy and enjoyable activities.

quality socks and handle more complicated techniques, such
as the Kitchener stitch at the toe. Using instructions for

* Anna Zilboorg - Socks For Sandals And Clogs

Socks for Sandals and clogs presents a collection of socks designed to
be seen. The unique feature of these variously patterned socks is
emphasis on heels which show prominently in clogs and sandals.

Socks for Sandals and Clogs first appeared as a poster, a sock art to
be hung on a wall. A book of instructions accompanied the poster for
those wishing to knit the socks for themselves.

This new editions brings the poster socks and Anna's instructions and
techniques together in a single book - and more. The new Socks for
Sandals and clogs includes free-sole socks. Free-sole socks are made
with a new technique Anna conceived for making socks with readily
changeable soles. A free-sole sock can be knitted with an upper sock
of fine yarn and a sole of more durable yarn. When the soles wear out,
they can easily be detached and replaced using the free-sole construction."

Continuing Storey's popular die-cut Knit! series, Knit Socks! offers 15 one-of-
a-kind patterns that keep feet toasty warm while making a cool fashion statement.
Betsy McCarthy--a nationally renowned knitting teacher and designer of simple,
innovative knitwear patterns--recommends which types of yarn to use (wool and
wool blends hold the sock's shape best), and discusses the types of needles
suitable for knitters of varying levels of skill (wooden or bamboo for beginners
who knit more slowly, metal for speedy, experienced knitters). And McCarthy's
tips on working "in the round" using five needles will benefit even people who
have knitted for years.

* Cat Bordhi - Socks Soar On Two Circular Needles

This is the first sock knitting book devoted to teaching the simple mysteries of
two-circular-needle-sock-knitting, a vastly more efficient and easier method which
is rapidly gaining converts. Eleven original designs, clearly worded instructions,
photographs, charts, a section on translating traditional patterns to the two-
circular method, and abundant tips and tricks have been put together with great
care and a generous sprinkling of humor. The author answers all of those subtle,
almost unframeable questions a new sock knitter has, as well as delighting seasoned
sock knitters with innovative sock architecture and techniques.

* Cat Bordhi - A Second Treasury Of Magical Knitting

Readers of the first book in this two-volume series (A Treasury of Magical Knitting)
have fallen in love with the new world of Magical Knitting, a dimension so simple yet
so captivating that one could spend a year exploring the huge variety of designs
which Cat offers. Beginning with Cat's unique Moebius Cast-On, which is so easy that
she usually demonstrates it in workshops behind her back while twirling slowly around
on one foot, the reader first learns to knit a Moebius band, or scarf. This is
the magic key that opens the way to all the other designs. The Second Treasury
includes felted baskets (with no inside or outside!), felted fringed bowls, felted
and unfelted sling bags, six different felted cat beds (one with paws and a tail!),
and the trifold designs, including a knitter's bowl with pockets for tools and a place
to keep working yarn away from playful felines. The Felted Needle Cozies, colorful,
highly textured sheaths to hold straight needles, and the felted wallets are both
excellent patterns for beginners and first-time felters. The book includes detailed
information on felting, designing, and yarn substitutions.

* Cat Bordhi - A Treasury Of Magical Knitting

With her latest book, A Treasury of Magical Knitting, Cat Bordhi introduces knitters
of all levels to the warm welcome of a simple and mysterious dimension of knitting.
Here you will find thirty-three projects, including scarves with one side and one edge,
knitted in one fell swoop, like the Fringed Cedar Bark Scarf or the Mercurial Moebius
Wraps... graceful headwear, like the Beaded Tresses Hat... felted footwear both
practical and functional, like Sophie.s Mermaid Feet ... the Lost Trail Cape with its
four-way convertible collar ... and the Seven Socklings Necklace. Cat, who is known for
her clear and comprehensive instructions both as a workshop teacher and as the author
of the best-selling Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles, has taken outdone herself in
this full-color, 112 page coffee table quality book. Instructions for the simple
technique are illustrated with close-up photos showing every move, almost like
a slow motion movie, accompanied by clear descriptions so that learners of all kinds
will find it easy to get started.

* Mellisa Morgan Oakes - 2 At A Time Socks

Sock knitters everywhere know the frustration of Second Sock Syndrome. It goes
something like this: A cute new sock pattern and soft, foot-warming yarn lead
to many happy knitting hours, resulting in ... ONE sock. The first sock is done
(and it's adorable!) but pattern distraction sets in. Who wants to knit the same
project all over again? There are so many new projects waiting to be discovered.

Melissa Morgan-Oakes ends the drudgery of the second sock by showing knitters
how to cast on and knit two socks at one time on one long circular needle!
Her method is captured in step-by-step photographs, clearly showing knitters
how to turn out two socks at the same time. Goodbye to lonely, abandoned single
socks. Hello to unlimited pretty pairs, knit on one needle (often finished on
the same day), and worn with pride and that gratifying sense of accomplishment.

Oakes is a dedicated knitter, knitwear designer, and knitting instructor who has
known the frustration of Second Sock Syndrome. Her easy-to-learn technique enables
sock stitchers to adapt any pattern to her two-at-a-time method. But before
experimenting with other patterns, readers will want to try Morgan-Oakes's 15
original designs. Fun and creative, they include simple to complex choices,
a variety of yarn weights, and designs for women, men, and children.

Socks are small, relatively inexpensive, and interesting to knit . a favorite
portable choice of busy knitters. Keep the fun in sock-stitching with the
innovative new technique that produces two socks . yes, that's one sock for each
foot . at the very same time!

Everything old is new again, and this collection of vintage sock patterns mines
Weldon's Practical Needlework, a compilation of newsletters published more than
100 years ago, for some of the best. Twenty-four classic patterns are updated
here for modern knitters with the inclusion of gauges, contemporary yarns, modern
methods, and modern sizes. Filled with fascinating household and historic tidbits
from the era, along with little-known tips such as an unconventional way to shape
a heel, this historical and gracefully written book evokes a more genteel time
while presenting a bevy of colorful socks not seen for nearly a hundred years.
After an introduction to a few techniques from the original Weldon's, the patterns
begin with an 1887 pair of Gentleman's Shooting Stockings with Fluted Pattern and
end with a pair of Ladies' Silk Stockings with Clocks from 1914. Intended for
knitters of all levels, this walk down memory lane revives some very classic
patterns that may have been gone but are not forgotten.

* Wendy D. Johnson - Socks From The Toe Up

Knitting socks from the toe up has a few advantages: you can try on the sock
as you knit, and you can adjust the height of the cuff to the amount of yarn
you have. Johnson provides five different techniques for starting a sock with
the toe; three different heel techniques; several cast-off options; as well
as instruction on knitting using double-pointed needles, two circular needles,
or one long circular needle. The ballerina photos show off each sock pattern
from multiple angles. The three basic sock patterns allow knitters to
experiment with their own creations. Solid or heather-colored yarns are
recommended to best display the lacework or textured design (no color-work
patterns are included). Half of the socks are lace patterns, and all but three
use fingerling weight yarn. Socks are a popular knitting project because of
their size, portability, and variety; they can be as simple or as complex as
you like. This attractive collection of 23 sock patterns ranges from very basic
to more challenging designs; both first time and advanced knitters will find
projects here
