When was the last time you didn't understand what someone was saying?
When was the last time you didn't make yourself understood? The Art of
Plain Talk by Rudolf Flesch is an oldie but goodie that will teach you
how to replace pompous academic words with the words we use every day,
in order to increase the clarity of your messages. Just open the book
with the WinDjView-0.5 file and find out how to make yourself understood
better than ever before.
Here are some pointers: As often as you can: use root words, avoid
prefixes or suffixes, change abstract words to concrete words, remove
irregular verbs and gerunds, use periods instead of conjunctions. Also,
repeat yourself, give your readers space and time to follow your
thoughts, don.t condense too much, don.t write about ideas and things,
but about people who think ideas and work with things.
