Matthew Pinkelton (1701-1774) - author of the famous art encyclopedia, known as the "dictionary Pinkeltona» (Pilkington's Dictionary). Born in Ireland, he studied at Trinity College in Dublin, wrote poetry. After his marriage he moved to London, where he led the introduction to Jonathan Swift. Interested in the history of painting and published a collection of biographies of artists «The Gentleman's and Connoisseur's Dictionary of Painters». His work has weathered many publications. Pinkelton died in Dublin.
