CryEngine 3: A Comprehensive Introduction, is the groundwork series you need to work with this beautiful AAA Engine. It assumes you have no knowledge of the editor and takes you from initial download, all the way to a complete island level. At nearly 5 hours you will get a solid introduction to the tools you will use the majority of the time when working with Crytek's next-gen engine.
What will you learn in this series?
This series is meant to give you a comprehensive introduction and overview to Crytek's award winning engine. It assumes no previous knowledge working within a game editor and walks you through the major functionality's of CryEngine. From downloading the SDK, we will work through the viewport and navigation, the terrain system, vegetation, particles, and many other useful tools found within the editor. Unique to CryEngine, we will also look at voxel terrain for caves and overhangs, Boids for creating natural objects with flocking behaviour, and the River and Road tools. By the end of this series, you will have a strong basis in the operation of this engine and how to navigate within it. The skill set to create your own levels with the included assets and tools is an end goal of this series. By the end of this series, you will be able to lad your level from the launcher utility, and play in your new world in a standard FPS perspective.
